Co Vinh La – known to everyone as Co La – has hospitality running through his veins. A talented chef, he’s worked at some of Australia’s top hotels, including Sydney’s Sheraton on the Park, Four Seasons and the QT Hotel, where he was Sous Chef. Which is why when he opened a franchise, he chose Jamaica Blue; a business known for using the highest quality ingredients.
After twelve years living and working in Sydney, Co La relocated to Perth in 2015. He began looking at business opportunities which would leverage his experience and provide a successful framework for a new business owner. When he discovered Jamaica Blue, he was impressed by the level of support offered – as well as the award-winning coffee.
“I’d always really enjoyed it! It’s delicious and I want to be involved in a business that focuses on quality.”
Building an Empire with Jamaica Blue
Fast forward six years, and Co La owns two thriving Jamaica Blue cafes in Perth, with a third set to open in a few months. He opened his first café in Livingston in 2018. After some hard graft, he opened a second one a year later in the busy Forest Lakes Shopping Centre. Now, he is about to launch a third Jamaica Blue store in the Kardinya Shopping Centre….and has his sights set on a fourth in the near future!
“Jamaica Blue is contemporary and stylish,” says Co La. “It appeals to a customer looking for quality. Plus, the national office supports us with ongoing marketing campaigns and ideas to help us stand out in a crowded market.”
Of course, the past 18 months of a global pandemic have been tough for everyone. Co La is delighted with the level of support offered by Jamaica Blue. Owned by Foodco, one of
Australia’s leading franchise groups, all new owners receive comprehensive training before
launching, as well as ongoing field support and mentoring.
Driven by Community. Supported by Loyal Customers.
“It’s been a challenging year for everyone, not only for franchisees but also for our national franchisor,” says Co La. “We have stayed open all the way through the pandemic, and we were lucky our customers also came for either take away or via an online order. They really supported us through a difficult time.”
“We have been lucky in WA, and we are supported by our strong community, so another store with Jamaica Blue will be opening in Kardinya Shopping Centre sometime this October or November. My short-term goal is to forge a strong reputation for my new store and introduce Jamaica Blue’s famous coffee to a new customer base. My long-term goal – and always in my mind – is not only making the Jamaica Blue brand more and more popular in WA but also bringing our talents to serve the community, especially for our coffee lovers.”
A Business Backed by a Strong National Franchise
Co La encourages people interested in the cafe business to consider the benefits of joining a national franchise network. “Franchise support and training gives you a huge advantage.”
