What award are Jamaica Blue employees hired under?
The Restaurant Industry Award. Information about the award can be found on Fair Work here The Restaurant Industry Award About Pay, Hours of Work / Break, Allowance, Leave and Terminations. Pay rate is determined by the Award, Age, Classification (Full Time, Part Time or Casual), Level/Grade.
What details will I need to provide to start work?
Details and documents include:
- Your Full Name
- Residential address
- Phone number, email address
- Emergency contact details
- Tax details (TFN and tax declaration)
- Bank details (BSB and Account Number)
- Superannuation
- Parental or guardian’s consent may be required depending on the state and minimum age requirements (varies from state to state for age requirements)
Do I need a tax file number?
A Tax File Declaration form will need to be completed prior to starting work at Jamaica Blue. In the form. you will need to provide a tax file number (TFN) in the form or an alternative.
It is free to apply for a TFN. Australian residents can apply for a TFN at any age. Foreign passport holders, permanent migrants and temporary visitors can apply for a TFN online as well.

Do I need a bank account?
Yes, you will need a bank account number in order to receive your wages. Please ensure you provide the correct Account Name, BSB (six-digit number) and Account Number at the time of starting work.
How often do I get paid?
Wages are paid either weekly or fortnightly depending on the Jamaica Blue Cafe. Payment is to be made via EFT into a nominated back account. The store will advise on which day of the week this will occur. Payslips are issued within 24 hours of payment being received.
How are my shifts communicated?
This will depend on the café location you work at. Shifts can be communicated in a few ways. The roster should be prepared in advance and the manager will notify the crew via text, email, or a rostering app. It will be your responsibility to be up to date with the roster and to inform your manager of any changes to your availability.
How do I take time off from work?
This will depend on the café location you work at. Employees should discuss the steps needed for taking time off with their manager, as the process varies from café to café. Some cafes will require up to two weeks’ notice, as our rosters are prepared in advance. All cafes will require this leave request in writing.
Will I have to wear a uniform?
All employees will be provided with a uniform that must be worn whilst at work. Employees are expected to look after and maintain their uniform so that they are clean and tidy when at work. Please note you will need to provide your own non-slip, black, enclosed shoes, and black pants.
