Celebrating 30 years of Jamaica Blue
On October 1st, 1992 at Miranda Westfield, we opened our first Jamaica Blue café.
In the early 90’s specialty coffee had just hit Australian shores and it was then, Westfield had asked us to develop an espresso bar to feature in their shopping centres.
Over time, we recognized, customers didn’t just want great coffee, they wanted something to compliment it. From then on, we moved into creating food to compliment the coffee available at our Jamaica Blue stores.
Fast forward 30 years, we now have over 200 Jamaica Blue cafes across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia and China.
Coffee is in our DNA!
We are inspired by and named after the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, widely regarded as the home of the world’s best coffee.
Our signature blend features premium Jamaica Blue Mountain beans and we also offer an exclusive single origin coffee, Wallenford Estate® Jamaica Blue Mountain® Coffee, from the Blue Mountains of Jamaica.

From the Kenyan Highlands, to your local Jamaica Blue
Kiunyu Factory is located in Ngariama Location , Kirinyaga County.
Kirinyaga County sits at the foothills of Mount Kenya, some 112km from Nairobi and borders Embu County to the east, Machakos County to the south, Murang’a County to south west and Nyeri County to the west.
The county is named after Mount Kenya, which is known to the locals as Kirinyaga, meaning the crest of whiteness, synonymous with its snow-capped peaks.
The factory is part of the Karithathi Farmers Cooperative Society which was established in the 1960’s, now with 1,600 active farmer members.
The processing method
The farmers coffee cherries are closely monitored and when ripe and red, handpicked early in the morning and delivered to the factory.
The cherries are then sorted and depulped, graded and washed in channels before being spread evenly on raised beds for 7-15 days, whilst being turned regularly to dry under careful supervision.
Many of the farmers also grow tea as the deep fertile and well-drained soil is ideal for both coffee and tea production.
With a sophisticated & silky mouthfeel, featuring sugary caramel notes balanced by bright citrus acidity, this coffee has all the flavours we have come to expect from high quality Kenyan coffee.
