How Your Morning Coffee Could Help Save The Lives of Aussie Kids

Jamaica Blue partners with Jeans for Genes this August to support lifechanging genetic disease research.

This August, Jamaica Blue is proud to partner with Children’s Medical Research Institute’s (CMRI) iconic Jeans for Genes campaign, helping raise vital funds to support research into genetic diseases and birth defects affecting Australian children.

Through a month-long fundraising initiative across participating Jamaica Blue cafes nationwide, Australians can make a meaningful difference with their morning coffee, with proceeds from coffee sales, charity cookies and in-store donations contributing directly to the cause.

Together, we want to help make the incurable, curable.

“One of them worked, which was quite
amazing. And so that gave us hope.”

James’ Story

James was born with a serious genetic eye condition. By the age of two, he had undergone 17 surgeries, including corneal transplants in both eyes.

“It was very scary and confronting. I just wanted to take him home and cuddle him.”

Ana, James’ mum

Today, James is a curious, energetic kindergartner. His story highlights the life-changing importance of funding the research and treatments made possible through initiatives such as Jeans for Genes.

About Jeans for
Genes & CMRI

Jeans for Genes is one of Australia’s longest-running charity fundraising campaigns, founded by the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) in 1994. What started as a simple idea — wear jeans, raise money — has grown into a national movement that has raised millions of dollars for life-changing genetic research.

CMRI is Australia’s first organisation dedicated solely to improving children’s health through research. For over 65 years, their scientists have been working to understand the genes and proteins that shape human development and to find treatments and cures for the conditions that affect 1 in 20 Australian children.

Every dollar raised through Jeans for Genes goes directly to CMRI research including the Eye Genetics Research Unit working toward answers for children like James.
